April 29 - May 19 - Peru is an incredibly diverse country, ranging from the high altitude of the Andes to the low-altitude Amazon basin. Because there is so much diversity in the landforms, Peru is also home to some of the richest biodiversity on the planet. We spent much of our time investigating a road that is being blasted through the Andes from the Brazilian border to the Pacific Coast to allow the export of soy, lumber, cattle and other cash crops from Brazil to China. The San Francisco-based Moore Foundation has pumped millions of dollars into NGO and research work in the region, but it is hard to point to large-scale conservation success from this type of investment. Go to our homepage to find a link to the story about the highway and Moore's impact in the region.
